There is a difference in shavers at different pricing levels. Generally speaking, the more you spend, the better shaver you get. Here is a list of the best shavers at any budget.
A better shaver means:
- A closer shave
- Less irritation after the shave
- More comfortable while shaving
When you compare them, like I do in my Shaver Battles, it is easy to notice the difference. Here is my top shaver at every price point and a runner-up choice. Any of these shavers would be an excellent choice.
Elite Shavers ($200+)
The Elite shavers are the best of the best. You pay for it, but you get a great shaver. If you have a very fast-growing beard or you have a thick/coarse beard, this is the category for you.
Braun Series 9 Pro+
The Braun Series 9 has long been one of the top shavers. It continues to be upgraded with the Series 9 Pro and the Series 9 Pro+. It is just better than the other Braun shavers. It has lots of power so it does well with up to a 5-7 day beard. The Series Pro+ does also include a new and improved built-in trimmer.

Braun Series 9 Pro+
This is one of the best shavers, if not the best shaver. The Pro+ has an upgraded built-in trimmer on the back.
If you have the budget, you cannot go wrong with the Braun Series 9 Pro+.
Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige
The Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige is a whole new level of quality and comfort from Philips Norelco. Previously, I thought Philips Norelco struggled in the elite shaver category, but that all changed with the S9000 Prestige. It is as close as a blade, super comfortable, and leaves nearly no irritation. Even though this is the runner-up, it is still a fantastic shaver.

Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige
Surprising to me in 2024, The Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige has become my overall favorite shaver. Ridiculously close shave and very comfortable.
Mid-Range Shavers ($100 – $200)
If you are not looking to spend the money for an elite shaver, there are many good choices in the mid-range. They do a great job, but they will not have the power for a 5 – 7 day beard.
Philps Norelco 9400
The Philips Norelco 9400 is new for 2024, and I already like it. I believe Philips Norelco removed the lights from the 9800 so they could bring the price down into the mid-range category and create the 9400. I think it was an excellent move.

Philips Norelco 9400
My top pick in mid-priced shavers.
Panasonic ARC5
I love the Panasonic ARC5 since the first time I shaved with it. It provides a very comfortable shave while using the shaver and it gets a close shave. I also like the built-in trimmer. My only concern here is: I think Panasonic may be phasing out the ARC5 since it is becoming harder and harder to find. Maybe Panasonic has something new planned.

Panasonic ARC5
The Panasonic ARC5 shaver is an excellent mid-priced shaver. It has 5 cutting surfaces and a built-in trimmer.
In 2025, I need to reevaluate this category because the Manscaped Chairman PRO is a strong newcomer and the Braun Series 7 is always good.
Budget-Friendly Shavers ($100 or less)
If you are looking to get a decent shaver without spending a ton of money, this category is for you. These are a great choice if you have a thin beard or are new to shaving (teen). Also, these shavers frequently go on sale, so check the Daily Deals page for updates.
Braun Series 5, 5100
The Braun Series 5 gets the closest shave of the budget-friendly (under $100) shavers. It has the same cutting surface as the Braun Series 6 and 7. The only difference is the Series 5 does not have motion in the head of the shaver. New in 2024, the Braun Series 5 has a Turbo Mode for a faster shave. Plus, I love all the extra attachments you can get to use the Braun Series 5 for body grooming, beard trimming, or beard stubble.

With Turbo Mode, Model 5118s
New in 2024, the Braun Series 5 now has a Turbo Mode.
Philips Norelco 3900
Philips Norelco continues to improve on the classic shaver. They left the cutting surface and head of the shaver alone. That is the same. They updated the charging cord to support plugging into a USB port. I like this move. I am noticing some other shavers going to USB charging. The Philips Norelco 3900 is one of the most comfortable shavers to use while shaving. It does not get quite as close of a shave as the other shavers on this list. However, it is close enough for many, many people. This is one of the most popular shavers out there.

Philips Norelco 3900
The latest edition of the classic Philips Norelco shaver. A great shaver at a budget price.
