The Process Behind Shaver Dude

Shaver Dude is an experiment in becoming an influencer for a specific product niche. Shaver Dude focuses on men’s electric shavers but I believe the process could work for many other products.

  • Clean the Slate

I always have unfinished tasks and incomplete todo lists. Yesterday and today, I have decided to clear it all and start the next month clean. Whatever does not get done by today is gone. Truthfully, it probably was not all that important anyhow.

I cleared out all the pages in my calendar, it is a Rocketbook so the pages erase.

Here is to a new month with no backlog hanging over my head.

  • Ups and Downs of Creator Life

Some days I feel like: this is totally going to work, and I can sell 100 shavers a day.

The next day I ask myself: why am I building a website in 2024. No one reads blogs and websites.

Welcome to the ups and downs of being a creator.

  • The First 10 Days

I launched the Shaver Dude website 10 days ago. Here is what I have done since then. Note, before I launched the website, I already had a topic and a name.

I setup all the social media accounts at: Facebook page, Instagram, TikTok. I already had the YouTube created

I setup the website on the domain using WordPress hosted at EasyWP from NameCheap. I use NameCheap to register my domain names, so it made sense to use their WordPress hosting. It is fairly inexpensive and fast.

I themed the website and added a few pages: Homepage, Blog, About

I created a Daily Deals page to highlight shavers on sale. This required a bit of coding and integration with Make dot com. It auto updates every day with the top shaver deals.

I added forms to the homepage and all blog posts to sign up for the Shaver Dude email newsletter.

I installed a few WordPress plugins: Yoast, JetPack, Mailerlite, Make Connector

I wrote the first blog post to make sure the blog was working.

The Yoast plugin created a sitemap.xml and I submitted that to search engines: Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools

Setup a Make dot com scenario to automate sharing of text blog posts to social media accounts. If you are reading this post on LinkedIn, it was automatically shared via this process.

I created The Process page to document the process I am using to build Shaver Dude.

I started building out the content by creating a blog post highlighting my favorite shavers at any budget. Then I wrote 5 more detailed blog posts about shavers on that initial list.

This post is intended to help me remember the process, but if anyone finds it useful, then great!

  • Shaver Dude is an Experiment

Shaver Dude is an experiment in becoming an online Influencer. I wanted to know the best way(s) to become an expert in creating content around products. Can I pick a product category and become the expert? I decided to pick men’s electric shavers. So, here are my questions.

    Will it work?

How long will it take to attract followers?

How long will it take to monetize? And what will work best?

    And…What questions would you have?
